Early Life and Learning

Daisy Riley was born in Lawrence, Kansas. She grew up on a farm and went to local public schools. In 1946, she finished Highland Park High School.

She then went to Howard University in Washington, D.C.. There, she studied economics and sociology. She earned her bachelor's degree in 1950. To help pay for her studies, she worked at the Library of Congress. At Howard, she met Frank Perry Lloyd, and they got married in 1950.

In 1951, Daisy and Frank moved to Germany. Frank was a doctor, and the U.S. Army sent him there. In 1953, the Lloyd family moved to Indianapolis. Daisy focused on raising their four children. She was also very involved in her local Roman Catholic church.
