Dakota City is a small city in Iowa, United States. It is the main town, or county seat, of Humboldt County. In 2020, about 759 people lived there. Dakota City is right next to the bigger city of Humboldt. It is the smallest county seat in all of Iowa.

History of Dakota City
Dakota City was first planned out in 1855. It got its name from the Dakota people, a Native American group. A post office opened in 1856, called Dakotah. Later, in 1924, its name was officially changed to Dakota City.

Fun Things to Do
The Three Rivers Bike Trail goes right through Dakota City. This trail was built on an old railroad track. One cool part of the trail is a special bridge, called a trestle. It crosses over another old railway line that is also now a trail. The "Three Rivers" name comes from the East and West Forks of the Des Moines River and the Boone River, which the trail crosses.
