The Story of Dakota Style
How It Began
Dakota Style was started in 1985 by Bob and Betty Campbell. They lived on a farm and grew potatoes. They wanted to find a way to make more money from their potato crops. So, they decided to turn their potatoes into delicious potato chips!
Betty Campbell experimented in her kitchen to create the perfect chip. She was inspired by "Maui Chips" from Hawaii. Her goal was to make chips with a special crunch and flavor. This led to their famous Industrial Strength kettle cooked potato chips. Kettle cooked means the chips are cooked in smaller batches, often in a big pot, which makes them extra crispy and flavorful.
Growing the Business
The Campbell family, including their sons, worked hard to make Dakota Style a successful business. They built it up over many years. In 1998, after growing the company, the Campbells sold it.
In 2006, Dakota Style started to focus more on sunflower seeds. They worked to get their seeds into more stores. By 2012, sunflower seeds became a very big part of their business. They made up 70 percent of the products they sold!
Supporting Sports
Dakota Style also likes to support sports. The company is a sponsor of Jared Allen's Pro Bull Team. This means they help support the team that competes in exciting bull riding events.
