A Look Back: Dale's Railroad History
Long ago, Dale was part of an important railroad route. This was the main line of the Seaboard Air Line Railroad's Carolina Division. It was built between 1915 and 1917. This railway connected different parts of the state.
Later, in 1967, this railroad line became part of the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad. Over time, less traffic used this route. Parts of the railway were removed starting in 1967. By 1982, most of the remaining tracks were taken up. Today, some of the old railway path has been turned into a walking trail called the New River Linear Trail.
