Dallas (Scottish Gaelic: Dalais) is a small village located in Moray, Scotland. It is about 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) southwest of Elgin. You can find it just off the B9010 road. The village has a population of around 150 to 200 people.

What's in a Name? The Origin of Dallas

The name Dallas was first written down in 1226 as Dolays Mychel. It might come from the ancient Pictish language. The first part, dol, likely means "water meadow" or "flat land near water". The second part might be similar to the Brittonic word gwas, which means "a home" or "an abode".

Community Spirit in Dallas

Dallas is well-known for its strong community spirit. The village holds a special event every July called the village gala. During this gala, local girls are chosen to be the Gala Queen and her helpers.

The gala includes daily events, like a fun games day. This often features a race through the village using wheelbarrows or prams. After that, there are team games similar to "It's a Knockout". Even though Dallas is a small village, its gala is a big event. It attracts many visitors from nearby areas.
