Dalzell is a small village located in the state of Illinois, USA. It is found across two counties: Bureau and LaSalle. In 2020, about 663 people lived there. This was a slight decrease from 717 residents in 2010. Dalzell was officially started on November 24, 1903.

History of Dalzell
How Dalzell Started
Dalzell began as a coal mine camp. In 1899, the Spring Valley Coal Company dug a deep shaft for a coal mine here. The area was first called the No. 5 Mine Camp. The company owned all the land around the camp. Later, another area, the No. 6 Mine Camp, was added.
Becoming a Village
These mine camps officially became a village on February 11, 1904. The village was named after Samuel M. Dalzell. He was a very important person in the mining industry and managed the mine from Spring Valley. The coal mine in Dalzell closed down in February 1923. A post office has been open in Dalzell since 1902.

Most of Dalzell is in Bureau County. However, a small part of the village reaches into LaSalle County. In 2000, all 717 people living in Dalzell were counted as living in Bureau County.
