Dangerfield F. Talbert (born March 8, 1878 – died June 20, 1914) was an American baseball player. He was a talented third baseman during a time before the official Negro leagues were formed.

Early Life and Baseball Start

Dangerfield Talbert was born in Platte City, Missouri. Later, his family moved to Omaha, Nebraska. He went to public schools there.

He started playing baseball at Omaha High School. At just 16 years old, he was already playing as a catcher.

Professional Baseball Career

In 1900, Talbert moved to Chicago. He joined a team called the Chicago Unions. He mostly played third base for them. This became his main position for most of his career.

He played for many Chicago-based teams. For a couple of years, he also played for the Algona Brownies in Iowa.

Talbert even played a winter season with the Cuban X-Giants. After that, he returned to play regular season games with the Leland Giants.

He stayed with the Leland Giants until 1910. At that time, the team split up after a disagreement. Talbert then joined Frank Leland's new team, the Chicago Giants. He played with them in 1910 and 1911.

Playing with Stars

Dangerfield Talbert played with and against many famous baseball players of his time. Some of these well-known names included Rube Foster, Sol White, Henry W. Moore, William Binga, Walter Ball, and Charles "Joe" Green.

Later Life and Legacy

In 1913, Talbert became very sick. He was diagnosed with tuberculosis, which was once called consumption.

His friend and former teammate, Rube Foster, helped him. In May 1913, Foster organized a special baseball game. This game helped raise money for Talbert, collecting about $265. Baseball fans in Omaha also held a benefit for him later that year.

Dangerfield Talbert passed away in Omaha, Nebraska, at his sister's home. He was 36 years old. He was buried at Laurel Hill cemetery.
