Daniel Javier Caverzaschi Arzola, born on July 11, 1993, is a talented Spanish wheelchair tennis player. He has proudly represented Spain at the Paralympic Games multiple times. Daniel was born in Madrid, Spain, on July 11, 1993. He was born missing most of his right leg below the knee. His family lived in Spain until he was two years old. They then moved to the United States for eight years because of his father's job. Daniel spent most of his childhood in Miami, except for one year in Chicago.

Education and Training

Daniel studied economics and graduated from the University of Warwick in Coventry, England. While there, he trained with coach Matt Thomas. Today, he trains at CAR Sant Cugat del Vallés in Barcelona. He also trains at Ciudad de la Raqueta in Madrid.

Daniel is sponsored by companies like Vodafone and the Madrid Tennis Federation. His old school in Madrid, Runnymede College, also provides him with financial support. Outside of his sports career, Daniel hopes to become a banker.

Daniel's Wheelchair Tennis Journey

Daniel Caverzaschi is a left-handed wheelchair tennis player. He began playing the sport when he was 12 years old. His highest ranking as a junior player was second in the world, which he reached in October 2011. As an adult, his best singles ranking was 43rd in the world in August 2012.

Early Career and Tournaments

Daniel's first big tournament was the 2007 Spanish Open. He reached the quarter-finals in singles and the finals in doubles. By 2008, people were already calling him a rising star in Spanish wheelchair tennis.

After a break from ITF events in 2008, Daniel returned in June 2009. He competed in many tournaments, including the British Open and the Invacare World Team Cup. In 2010, he reached the finals of the boys' competition at the Trofeo Della Mole. He also won the Master Nacional de Tenis en Silla de Ruedas Valencia Open 500 in 2010.

Key Achievements and Paralympic Games

In 2011, Daniel competed in many international tournaments. He won his first career title at the Rioja International Open. That same year, he signed a five-year sponsorship deal with Vodafone. This deal helped him develop as an elite athlete.

In 2012, Daniel continued to compete in various opens. He won the Valencia Open 500 again. His biggest event that year was the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London. He competed in both singles and doubles.

By October 2013, Daniel was the top-ranked wheelchair tennis player in Spain. He was also ranked twentieth in the world.

At the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Daniel made history. He became the first Spanish Paralympic tennis player to reach the quarter-finals.

At the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris, Daniel achieved another major milestone. He and his partner, Martín de la Puente, reached the doubles semifinals. This was a first for the Spanish tennis Paralympic team. They went on to win Spain's very first medal in wheelchair tennis. They earned a bronze medal in the men's doubles event.
