Daniel Ewing (born March 26, 1983) is an American former professional basketball player. He played as a shooting guard or point guard. After retiring from playing, he started working as a scout for the Los Angeles Lakers.

College Basketball Career

Daniel Ewing is a 6-foot-3-inch guard who played college basketball for Duke University. He played there for four seasons, from 2001 to 2005. His coach at Duke was the famous Mike Krzyzewski.

Before joining Duke, Daniel went to Willowridge High School in Texas. He played alongside other future basketball stars like T. J. Ford. In 2001, he was chosen as a McDonald's All-American, which means he was one of the best high school players in the country. During his time at Duke, he was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2003 ACC men's basketball tournament.

Professional Basketball Career

Daniel Ewing had a long career playing professional basketball. He played in the NBA in the United States and then spent many years playing for teams in Europe.

Playing in the NBA

In 2005, Daniel was chosen in the 2005 NBA draft by the Los Angeles Clippers. The draft is where NBA teams pick new players from college. He was the 32nd player picked overall.

He played for the Clippers for two seasons as a backup player. A backup player usually comes off the bench to help the team. In 127 games, he averaged about 3 points, 1 rebound, and 1 assist per game. In 2007, he left the Clippers.

Playing in Europe

After his time in the NBA, Daniel Ewing moved to Europe to continue his basketball career. He played for many different teams in several countries.

  • Russia: In 2007, he signed with BC Khimki in Russia. He played there for one year.
  • Poland: From 2008 to 2011, Daniel played for Asseco Prokom Gdynia in Poland. He was very successful there, helping his team win the Polish League championship three times in a row (2009, 2010, and 2011). In 2011, he was even named the MVP of the Polish League Finals!
  • Ukraine: In 2011, he played for Azovmash Mariupol in Ukraine.
  • Turkey: In 2012, he joined Beşiktaş in Turkey.
  • France: Daniel played for two teams in France. First, he joined Paris-Levallois in 2013. Then, in 2014, he signed with Le Mans Sarthe.
  • Lithuania: In 2015, he signed with Neptūnas Klaipėda in Lithuania. He was recognized as one of the best foreign players in the Lithuanian league in 2016. He returned to Neptūnas for a short time in 2017.
  • Israel: In 2016, Daniel played for Maccabi Ashdod in Israel.
  • Argentina and Romania: Towards the end of his career, he also played for Ferro Carril Oeste in Argentina in 2018 and CSU Sibiu in Romania in 2019 before retiring.
