Life and Music

Daniel Fortea loved music from a young age. As a child, he learned to play several instruments, including the clarinette, guitar, and bandurria.

When he was older, from 1898 to 1909, Daniel Fortea had the chance to study with a very famous guitar master named Francisco Tárrega. He learned a lot from Tárrega in Castellón de la Plana. Some of his classmates were also future famous musicians, like Emilio Pujol and Miguel Llobet.

In 1909, Daniel Fortea decided to open his own music school in Madrid. This school helped many students learn to play the guitar. He also started something very important called the Fortea Library. This library became one of the biggest collections of guitar music in the world!

Besides teaching, Daniel Fortea also performed concerts for audiences. He also wrote many beautiful pieces of music for the guitar. One of his students, Paulino Bernabe Senior, later became a well-known luthier, which is someone who builds and repairs stringed instruments like guitars.

Daniel Fortea's work as a teacher, composer, and collector of music helped many people enjoy and learn about the classical guitar.
