Daniel Johnson Jr., born on July 11, 1995, is a professional baseball player from the United States. He plays as an outfielder for the San Francisco Giants in Major League Baseball (MLB). Before joining the Giants, he also played for the Cleveland Indians and the Baltimore Orioles.

Daniel Johnson's Early Baseball Days

Johnson grew up in Vallejo, California. He went to Jesse M. Bethel High School. In his final year of high school, 2013, he was an amazing hitter, getting a .515 batting average.

College Baseball Journey

After high school, Daniel was not chosen in the 2013 Major League Baseball draft. So, he decided to go to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College. In 2014, his first year, he hit .274 with two Home runs. He also brought in 16 runs for his team.

Later, he moved to New Mexico State University. There, he played baseball for the Aggies team. In 2015, he continued to play well, batting .305. His junior year in 2016 was even better. He hit .382, smashed 12 home runs, and had 50 RBIs. He also stole 29 bases! Because of his great performance, he was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year.

Daniel Johnson's Professional Career

Starting with the Washington Nationals

The Washington Nationals picked Daniel Johnson in the fifth round of the 2016 Major League Baseball draft. In his first year as a pro in 2016, he played for the Auburn Doubledays. He hit .265 and had one home run. The Nationals believed he had the potential to be a strong player.

Rising Through the Minor Leagues

In 2017, Johnson played for the Hagerstown Suns. He quickly showed off his power, hitting ten home runs by the end of May. His batting average was also above .300. His great play earned him a spot on the South Atlantic League's All-Star team.

Later in 2017, he moved up to the Potomac Nationals. MLB Pipeline even ranked him as the Nationals' tenth-best young player. Daniel finished the 2017 season with a .298 batting average. He hit 22 home runs, had 72 RBIs, and stole 22 bases. He was named the Nationals' Minor League Player of the Year for 2017. In 2018, he played for the Harrisburg Senators, hitting .267 with six home runs.

Playing for the Cleveland Indians

On November 30, 2018, Daniel Johnson was traded to the Cleveland Indians. He started the 2019 season with the Akron RubberDucks. Then, he moved up to the Columbus Clippers in May 2019. That July, he played in the 2019 All-Star Futures Game, which features top young players. In 2019, he batted .290 with 19 home runs and 77 RBIs.

Johnson joined the Indians' main roster for the 2020 season. He made his first Major League Baseball appearance on July 25, 2020. On July 18, 2021, he hit his very first career home run in the MLB.

Moving to Other Teams

After his time with Cleveland, Daniel Johnson played for a few other teams. In May 2022, he was traded to the New York Mets. He played for their Triple-A team, the Syracuse Mets.

Later in 2022, Johnson signed a contract to return to the Washington Nationals organization. He played for their Triple-A team, the Rochester Red Wings.

In February 2023, he signed with the San Diego Padres. He played well for their Double-A and Triple-A teams. He hit 19 home runs, had 73 RBIs, and stole 30 bases that year.

Time with the Baltimore Orioles

On January 23, 2024, Johnson joined the Baltimore Orioles organization. He played for their Triple-A team, the Norfolk Tides. He had a strong season, hitting 21 home runs and getting 76 RBIs. In September 2024, the Orioles added him to their main roster. He made one appearance for the team.

Playing in Mexico and Joining the Giants

In February 2025, Daniel Johnson signed with the Caliente de Durango team in the Mexican League. He played very well there, hitting .429 with five home runs in just 10 games.

Then, on May 2, 2025, Johnson signed a contract with the San Francisco Giants. He played for their Triple-A team, the Sacramento River Cats. He continued to hit well, with six home runs and 18 RBIs in 26 games. On June 4, 2025, the Giants added him to their active roster, bringing him back to Major League Baseball.
