Daniel Oss's Cycling Journey
Starting Out: Junior and Amateur Years (2004–2008)
Daniel Oss was born in Trento, Italy. He started showing his talent in cycling very early. In 2004, he did really well at the National Student Track Championships. He won three medals there. That same year, he earned a third-place medal at the European Student Championships in the Madison race.
After a quiet year, Oss returned strongly in 2006. He won five races, showing his skill. In 2008, he competed in the World Championships for under-23 riders. He finished in eighth place in the road race.
Becoming a Pro: Liquigas Team (2009–2012)
In 2009, Daniel Oss became a professional cyclist. He joined the Liquigas team. He quickly showed his potential by finishing in the top 10 in a professional race for the first time. This was during the Tour of Catalunya.
In 2010, Oss finished fifth in a big race called Gent–Wevelgem. He also rode in his first ever Grand Tour, the Tour de France. He even won an award for being the most aggressive rider on one stage. The next year, he helped his teammate Elia Viviani win two stages in the 2011 USA Pro Cycling Challenge. Oss even won a stage himself in that race.
Big Team Successes: Post-Liquigas (2013–2023)
After leaving Liquigas, Oss joined the BMC team in 2013. This was a very successful period for him. Over five years, he won four medals at the UCI Road World Championships. These were in the team time trial event. He won gold medals in 2014 and 2015.
He also helped his team win seven team time trials in other races. This included big wins at the 2015 Tour de France and the 2017 Vuelta a España. Individually, he won the mountains classification in two races.
In 2018, Oss moved to the Bora-Hansgrohe team. He often worked as a domestique (a support rider) for famous cyclist Peter Sagan. In 2022, Oss and Sagan both moved to the TotalEnergies team. That year, Oss won a silver medal at the first-ever 2022 UCI Gravel World Championships in Italy. He rode in an attacking group for a long time during that race.
New Adventures: Gravel Racing
In November 2023, Daniel Oss decided to focus on gravel cycling. He joined the Specialized Gravel team. This new type of cycling combines elements of road and mountain biking, often on unpaved roads.
