Daniel Raymond Postgate was born on February 5, 1964. He is an English writer, author, and illustrator. You might know him from his children's books like Smelly Bill or Big Mum Plum. Daniel Postgate also helped bring back the popular TV show The Clangers. He wrote many episodes and even voiced some characters like the Iron Chicken and the Soup Dragon. He won a Bafta award for one of his Clangers episodes called 'I am the Eggbot'.
After his father, Oliver Postgate, passed away in 2008, Daniel took over Smallfilms. This company was started by his father and Peter Firmin. Smallfilms created many beloved British TV shows. These include Pingwings, Pogles' Wood, Noggin the Nog, Ivor the Engine, Clangers, and Bagpuss. These shows were shown on the BBC and ITV for many years.
Early Life and Education
Daniel Postgate was born in Whitstable, England, in 1964. He is the youngest son of Oliver Postgate and Prudence Myers. Daniel grew up in a village called Blean, near Whitstable. He went to Canterbury Technical College for his education.
His Creative Career
After moving to London, Daniel Postgate started drawing cartoons. His drawings were often featured in The Sunday Times newspaper. In 1993, he wrote and drew his first picture book, Kevin Saves the World.
Since then, Daniel has written and illustrated many more children's books. Some of his popular titles include Big Mother Plum, Hairy Toe, Smelly Bill, and Wild West Willy. He was also a main writer for the new Clangers series, which started in 2015 on CBeebies. This show won a Bafta award in 2015 for Daniel's writing. He was nominated again the next year. Daniel says that other famous illustrators like Quentin Blake and Dr. Seuss have inspired his work.
