Daniel Stanchfield was born in a town called Leeds, Maine. He grew up there before deciding to move west. In 1847, when he was 27 years old, Stanchfield moved to the Wisconsin Territory. He settled in a community known as Saint Anthony. This area later became part of the big city of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

To honor his contributions, a place called Stanchfield Township in Isanti County, Minnesota, was named after him. This shows how much he was remembered for his work in the region.
