Early Life and Rugby Beginnings

After finishing school, Daniel moved to Yamba, New South Wales. There, he played for a local team called the Lower Clarence Magpies.

Playing Career Highlights

Daniel Wagon had an exciting career playing rugby league for many years. He played in Australia, France, and even the United States.

Starting in the NRL

Daniel tried out for two big teams in Sydney: the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles and the St. George Dragons. He ended up signing with the St. George Dragons. Daniel made his first big game appearance for St. George in 1997. He even scored a try in his very first game, helping his team win 20-8. He played for the Dragons for two seasons, from 1997 to 1998.

Joining the Parramatta Eels

In 1999, Daniel joined the Parramatta Eels. This was a very important part of his career.

  • He was part of the Eels teams that reached the preliminary finals in 1999 and 2000. These are big games just before the Grand Final.
  • In 2001, Daniel was chosen to play for his home state, Queensland, in all three 2001 State of Origin series games. This is a huge honor for any rugby league player.
  • Later that year, he played in the 2001 NRL grand final for the Parramatta Eels. Even though they lost to the Newcastle Knights, playing in a Grand Final is a major achievement.
  • In 2005, Daniel played 15 games for Parramatta. The team finished first in the regular season, winning the minor premiership. They made it to the preliminary final again but lost.
  • Daniel continued to play for Parramatta in their finals campaigns in 2006 and 2007. He played one more year in 2008, making 17 appearances.
  • Overall, Daniel played in four preliminary final losses and one Grand Final loss with the Eels. This shows how close the team came to winning a championship during his time there.

Playing Overseas

After his time in Australia, Daniel decided to play rugby league in other countries.

  • In 2009, he moved to France to play for the Limoux Grizzlies in the Elite One Championship. He played there until April of that year.
  • Later in 2009, he returned to Australia briefly to play for the Gundagai Tigers.
  • In 2010, Daniel went to the United States. He was invited to help launch a new rugby league competition there. He also joined a team called the Aston Bulls in the American National Rugby League (AMNRL). This made him one of the most well-known players in that league.
