Sir Daniel Charles Williams (born 4 November 1935 – died 2 October 2024) was an important leader in Grenada. He was a lawyer who became the Governor-General of Grenada. This is like a representative of the King or Queen in a country.
Sir Daniel served as Governor-General from 8 August 1996 until 27 November 2008. Queen Elizabeth II officially appointed him. This happened after the Prime Minister of Grenada, Keith Mitchell, suggested him for the role.

Early Life and Education
Daniel Charles Williams was born on 4 November 1935. His birthplace was Saint David Parish in Grenada. At that time, Grenada was part of the British Windward Islands.
He studied law at the University of London. This education helped him become a successful lawyer. Later, he even started his own law firm called Danny Williams & Co.
A Career in Politics
Before becoming Governor-General, Sir Daniel Williams was active in politics. This was quite unique, as he was the only Grenadian Governor-General to have been a politician first.
In 1984, he was elected to the Parliament of Grenada. He was a member of the New National Party. From 1984 to 1989, he held several important jobs in the government. He served as a minister under Prime Minister Herbert Blaize. For a short time in 1988, he even acted as prime minister.
After the 1990 elections, his party was not in power. So, Sir Daniel went back to working as a private lawyer.
Becoming Governor-General
In 1996, Sir Daniel Williams received a special honor. Queen Elizabeth II made him a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St. Michael and St. George (GCMG). This is a very high award.
Soon after, he was chosen to be the Governor-General of Grenada. He held this important position for over 12 years. He worked to represent the Queen and support the people of Grenada.
Later Years
Sir Daniel Charles Williams passed away on 2 October 2024. He was 88 years old. He is remembered for his long service to Grenada, both as a politician and as Governor-General.
