Daniela Bobeva (Bulgarian: Даниела Бобева; born September 8, 1958) is a well-known Bulgarian economist and a former Deputy Prime Minister of Bulgaria. An economist studies how money, goods, and services are made, shared, and used. Throughout her career, she has held several important positions in the government and in finance, helping to guide Bulgaria's economic policies.

Daniela Bobeva's Early Life and Education

Daniela Bobeva was born in Sofia, the capital city of Bulgaria. She went to the Karl Marx Higher Institute of Economics, which is now known as the University of National and World Economy. In 1982, she finished her studies there, earning a degree in political economics. Later, in 1990, she completed her Doctorate of Economic Sciences.

Her Career in Government and Finance

After her studies, Daniela Bobeva began her career in public service.

Working in Government Ministries

From 1991 to 1992, she worked at the Ministry of Welfare. There, she was in charge of the Employment and Labour Market Department. This department focused on jobs and how people find work. Between 1993 and 1994, she was the Director of the Economic Program at the Center for the Study of Democracy. This center helps to understand how countries can become more democratic.

Roles in Foreign Investment and Banking

Daniela Bobeva held several key roles during the time Zhan Videnov was Prime Minister. From 1994 to 1995, she was a member of the Committee on Foreign Investment. This committee looked at money coming into Bulgaria from other countries. Then, from 1995 to 1996, she became the Chairman of the Foreign Investment Agency. This agency worked to attract businesses from other countries to invest in Bulgaria.

She also worked at the Bulgarian National Bank, which is Bulgaria's central bank. From 1996 to 1997, she was the Director of the Board for International Cooperation there.

Becoming a Minister

In 1997, when Stefan Sofiyanski became Prime Minister, Daniela Bobeva was appointed as the Minister of Trade and Economic Cooperation. In this role, she helped manage Bulgaria's trade with other countries and its economic relationships.

Work at the Black Sea Trade and Development Bank

After her time as a minister, in 1998, she moved to Thessaloniki, Greece. There, she started working for the Black Sea Trade and Development Bank. This bank helps to fund important economic projects in countries around the Black Sea, including Bulgaria. She worked her way up to become the Vice President of this important organization.

Return to Public Service

In 2001, Daniela Bobeva helped to create a political party called the Union of Free Democrats with Stefan Sofiyanski. From 2003 to 2013, she returned to the Bulgarian Central Bank. For a decade, she led its international division, dealing with financial matters between Bulgaria and other nations.

In May 2013, Daniela Bobeva was appointed as a Deputy Prime Minister. A Deputy Prime Minister is a high-ranking official who helps the Prime Minister manage the country. In this role, she was in charge of economic policies, attracting foreign investment, and overseeing services for businesses and citizens. She served in this position until August 2014.
