Danya Ariel Dayson (born October 1, 1972) is an important judge. She serves as an associate judge for the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. This court handles many legal cases in Washington, D.C. She has been a judge there since 2012.
Education and Early Career
Danya Dayson studied at two different universities. She earned her first degree, a Bachelor of Arts, from Appalachian State University. After that, she went to law school. She earned her law degree, called a Juris Doctor, from Georgetown University Law Center.
After finishing law school, she worked for a judge. This job is called a "clerkship." She helped Judge Robert E. Morin with his legal work. Later, she worked as a lawyer in a private law firm. This means she worked for a company that helps people with their legal problems.
Becoming a Judge in D.C.
On July 11, 2011, President Barack Obama chose Danya Dayson to become a judge. He nominated her for a 15-year term. This means she would serve as a judge for 15 years. She was chosen for a spot that became open when another judge, Stephanie Duncan-Peters, left.
The United States Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs held a meeting about her nomination. This happened on November 8, 2011. The committee then decided to recommend her to the full United States Senate. On November 18, 2011, the Senate officially approved her nomination. They did this by a voice vote, which means they said "yes" out loud. She officially started her job as a judge on April 27, 2012.
