The Story of Dare Foods
How It All Started
The story of Dare Foods began in 1892. A man named Charles H. Doerr started making and selling cookies and candies. He had a small grocery shop in a town called Berlin, Ontario, Canada. This town is now known as Kitchener.
By 1919, Charles Doerr had built his small business into a company. It was called the C.H. Doerr Company. This company delivered his delicious treats all across Ontario.
A New Leader and a Big Challenge
After Charles Doerr passed away in 1941, his grandson, Carl Doerr, took over. Carl was only 24 years old. He had a big job ahead of him.
In 1943, something very difficult happened. A fire destroyed the company's factory in Kitchener. This was a huge challenge for the company. But Carl Doerr acted quickly. He decided to rebuild right away. The same year, a new factory was built in Kitchener.
A New Name and More Growth
In 1945, the company's name was changed to "Dare." This new name was much easier for everyone to say and remember.
By 1954, Dare products were becoming very popular all over Canada. Just two years later, in 1956, Dare started sending its products to the United States. This helped even more people enjoy their snacks.

Dare Foods is known for being innovative. In 1954, they started using a special "tin tie" for their cookie bags. This made the bags resealable. It helped keep the cookies fresh for longer! Soon, this smart packaging became the standard for cookies across Canada.
