Darleen Carr (born Darlene Farnon; December 12, 1950) is an American actress, singer, and voice-over artist. She is also known as Darlene Carr or Darleen Drake. She has two sisters, Shannon Farnon and Charmian Carr, who are also actresses. Darleen is famous for her acting roles and for singing in classic Disney movies.
Early Life and Family
Darleen Carr was born in Chicago, Illinois. Her father, Brian Farnon, was a band leader at a famous resort called Harrah's Lake Tahoe. Her mother, Rita Oehman, was a singer.
Before Darleen turned 11, her family moved to Mission Hills in California. She later went to North Hollywood High School.
Acting Career
Darleen Carr has been in many TV shows and movies. In 1979, she played the main character, Susan Winslow, in the TV show Miss Winslow & Son. From 1971 to 1972, she played Cindy Smith in the comedy-drama The Smith Family.
She also had important roles in other TV series. She played Margaret Devlin in The Oregon Trail in 1977. Later, in 1981 and 1982, she was a newspaper editor, reporter, and photographer in the TV series Bret Maverick.
Darleen also played Kathleen "Kick" Kennedy in the TV movie Young Joe, the Forgotten Kennedy. Kathleen was the favorite sister of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy. Darleen also had a big role in the miniseries Once an Eagle in 1976. She played the daughter of Karl Malden's character in 12 episodes of The Streets of San Francisco (1972–77) and in a TV movie sequel in 1992.
Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Darleen appeared as a guest star on many popular TV shows. Some of these include The F.B.I., The Waltons, Charlie's Angels, Murder, She Wrote, and Magnum, P.I.. In 1994, she even appeared on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as Ambassador E'Tyshra.
Her movie roles include her first film, Monkeys, Go Home! (1967). She also appeared in The Impossible Years (1968) with David Niven and The Beguiled (1971) with Clint Eastwood. She was also in TV horror movies like The Horror at 37,000 Feet (1973) and a TV remake of Piranha (1995).
Singing and Voice Work
Darleen Carr is also a talented singer. She sang in the famous movie The Sound of Music. She provided the high singing voice for the character Kurt. She also sang some high solo parts for her sister Charmian in the film.
One of her most famous singing roles was in Walt Disney's The Jungle Book. She sang as The Girl, who is a character in the movie. She was signed to RCA Records, a record company. She also performed in plays and with her own band.
In 2022, Darleen Carr was part of a special event about Walt Disney’s The Jungle Book. She spoke at an exhibition called "Making a Masterpiece" at The Walt Disney Family Museum.
Awards
In 1977, Darleen Carr was nominated for a Golden Globe award. This was for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the miniseries Once an Eagle.
