  • In 1968, he earned his first degree, a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), from Kansas State University.
  • He then received a Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) from Wayne State University in 1970.
  • He continued his studies at the University of Michigan. He earned an A.M. degree in 1974 and a Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) in 1976. A Ph.D. is a very high university degree.
  • Later, in 1981, he earned a J.D. degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A J.D. is a law degree, which means he also studied law.

His Work as a Professor

Professor Hawkins taught at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) for many years. He started teaching there in 1987. He shared his knowledge with students until he retired in 2002.
