Sweet became very well known for his artwork on book covers. He painted the covers for many popular fantasy book series.
One of his most famous works was for The Wheel of Time series. He also created covers for the fun Xanth series by Piers Anthony. Other series he illustrated include the Saga of Recluce by L. E. Modesitt, Jr. and the Runelords series by David Farland.
Sweet also painted the first cover art for Stephen R. Donaldson's series, The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever. His art helped readers imagine the worlds inside these books.
