He also directed his first movie, Diary of a Mad Black Woman, in 2005. Later, in 2008, he directed the movie Make It Happen, which starred Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

About Darren Grant

Darren Grant was born and grew up in Seattle, Washington. He went to Sammamish High School in Bellevue, Washington. After high school, he studied at California State University, Northridge.

Starting His Career

After college, Darren Grant began directing music videos and commercials. He worked with many famous artists like Destiny's Child, Aaliyah, Brian McKnight, Deborah Cox, and Jermaine Dupri. His work earned him some big awards. He won an MTV Video Music Award for Best R&B Video for Destiny's Child's song "Survivor". He also received an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Music Video for "Stomp" by Kirk Franklin.

Directing Movies

In 2005, Darren Grant directed his first full-length movie, a comedy-drama called Diary of a Mad Black Woman. This movie was written by Tyler Perry. Even though some critics didn't love it, the movie was very successful at the box office. It made over $50 million, which was a lot more than it cost to make.

He continued to direct movies, including the dance film Make It Happen in 2008. In 2017, he directed the action-comedy Killing Hasselhoff. More recently, in 2021, he directed Wendy Williams: The Movie for the Lifetime channel.

In 2022, he was nominated for an award at the 1st Children's and Family Emmy Awards. This nomination was for Outstanding Children's or Family Viewing Series for his work as a producer on the show Raising Dion.
