About Darren Grant's Life and Work
Darren Grant grew up in Seattle, Washington. He went to Sammamish High School and later studied at California State University, Northridge. After college, he started directing music videos and commercials.
Directing Music Videos
He worked with many famous artists like Destiny's Child, Aaliyah, Brian McKnight, and Jermaine Dupri. Darren Grant has won important awards for his music videos. He received an MTV Video Music Award for Best R&B Video for Destiny's Child's song "Survivor". He also won an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Music Video for "Stomp" by Kirk Franklin.
Directing Movies
In 2005, Darren Grant directed his first big movie, a comedy-drama called Diary of a Mad Black Woman. This film was written by Tyler Perry. Even though some critics didn't love it, the movie was a big success. It earned over $50 million, which was a lot more than its $5.5 million budget.
Later, in 2008, he directed Make It Happen, a dance movie. In 2017, he directed an action-comedy called Killing Hasselhoff. In 2021, he directed Wendy Williams: The Movie for the Lifetime channel.
