Darryll Paul Holland, born on June 14, 1972, in Manchester, England, is a famous jockey from the United Kingdom. He rides horses in flat racing, which means races on a flat track without any jumps. Darryll has worked with many top trainers like Luca Cumani, Geoff Wragg, and Mark Johnston.
In 1991, Darryll was named the British flat racing Champion Apprentice. This award goes to the best young jockey learning the ropes. He also won the Lester Award for Apprentice Jockey of the Year in the same year. Later, he received two more Lester Awards for the Flat Ride of the Year. These were for his amazing rides on Double Trigger in the 1998 Goodwood Cup and on Just James in 2002 at Newmarket.
Darryll showed his skill early in the famous Epsom Derby race. In 1993, he finished third on a horse called Blues Traveller. This horse was a huge underdog, with odds of 150 to 1, meaning very few people expected it to do well! He came even closer to winning the Derby in 2006. He finished second on Dragon Dancer, another horse with long odds (66 to 1). They were beaten by just a tiny bit, called a "short head," by the winner, Sir Percy.
