Darwin Louis Cook (born August 6, 1958) is an American basketball coach and a former professional player. He played as a point guard and shooting guard. Cook spent many years playing in the NBA in the United States. He also played professionally in Italy. After his playing career, he became a basketball coach.
Playing Basketball
Darwin Cook started his basketball journey at the University of Portland. He played there from 1976 to 1980. After college, he was chosen by the Detroit Pistons in the 1980 NBA draft. Being drafted means a team picks a player to join their professional league. Cook was the 70th player picked overall that year.
Cook's career in the NBA lasted from 1980 to 1989. During this time, he played for several teams. These teams included the New Jersey Nets, Washington Bullets, Denver Nuggets, and San Antonio Spurs.
In 1987, Cook decided to play basketball in Italy. He signed a one-year contract with a team called Scavolini Pesaro. This team plays in Italy's top basketball league, the Serie A1. After his time in Italy, he returned to the NBA for one more season. He played again for the Nuggets and the Spurs. In 1989, after his NBA career, he went back to Italy. He signed another two-year contract with Scavolini Pesaro.
Coaching Career
After his successful playing career, Darwin Cook became a basketball coach. On May 19, 2017, he was named the head coach. He coached the men's basketball team at the University of Antelope Valley. His coaching role lasted until 2019.
