Daryl Kevin "Razor" Reaugh (born February 13, 1965) is a former professional ice hockey goalie. He is now a well-known broadcaster for the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League (NHL). He also works on NHL on NBC and Hockey Night in Canada. Daryl played 27 games in the NHL for the Edmonton Oilers and Hartford Whalers between 1985 and 1991.

Daryl Reaugh's Hockey Journey

Playing as a Goalie

Daryl Reaugh started his hockey journey playing for the Kamloops Blazers in the Western Hockey League (WHL). He was such a good goalie that he was named an All-Star! The Edmonton Oilers picked him in the 1984 NHL Draft as the 42nd player chosen.

He played 7 games with the Oilers. Even though he didn't play many games, he was part of the 1988 Edmonton Oilers team that won the Stanley Cup. He even has a Stanley Cup ring! His name isn't on the Cup because he only played 6 games that season, and players usually need to play more to get their name engraved.

In 1990, Daryl joined the Hartford Whalers. He played over 1000 minutes for them, with 7 wins, 7 losses, and 1 tie. His season was cut short when he got a serious hand injury while playing. Another player's skate accidentally cut his glove and hand. Later, a hamstring injury ended his promising career at just 28 years old in 1993.

Life as a Broadcaster

After his playing career, Daryl Reaugh became a hockey broadcaster. He first appeared on a weekly show called Rinkside in 1991. He also worked as a commentator for the Hartford Whalers in 1995–96.

Daryl has worked for many big sports channels like ABC, ESPN, Fox, Versus, and NBC. He even provided commentary for the EA Sports video games NHL '98 and NHL '99!

In 1996, Daryl joined Ralph Strangis to form the famous "Ralph and Razor" broadcasting team for the Dallas Stars. They were very popular and were even ranked the #1 broadcasting duo in the NHL in 2012.

From the 2011–12 NHL season, Daryl also started broadcasting Western Conference games for Hockey Night in Canada.

After the 2014-15 season, Ralph Strangis left the Stars. Dave Strader took his place. Sadly, Dave became ill and passed away in 2017. Daryl then partnered with former Stars defenseman Craig Ludwig.

Since the 2018-19 season, Daryl Reaugh has been the main color commentator for the Dallas Stars. He works with play-by-play announcer Josh Bogorad. Daryl also hosts "Podman Rush," which is the official podcast of the Dallas Stars. It features interviews and analysis.

Razorisms: Daryl's Special Words

Daryl is famous for his unique way of describing hockey plays. He uses a lot of interesting words that fans call "Razorisms." For example:

  • He says "larceny" when a goalie makes an amazing save that seems to steal a goal from the other team.
  • He uses "mastodonic" to describe a very important play in a game.
  • When he sees a play that is super exciting or impressive, he calls it "nectarous."

Daryl's Personal Life

Daryl Reaugh grew up in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada. He is also related to former NHL player Brendan Morrison because their wives are sisters. Daryl has two daughters. He is also known for drinking three glasses of milk every day!
