Charles David Hood Jr. (born April 24, 1954 – died March 15, 2019) was an American politician. He was a member of the Republican Party. He served as a judge in Florida's Seventh Judicial Circuit Court. Before becoming a judge, he was a state representative. He represented parts of Volusia County, Florida, from 2012 to 2014.

Early Life and Public Service

Dave Hood Jr. moved to Florida in 1978. He started his career as a lawyer. He became a partner in a law firm called Smith, Hood, Stout, Bigman & Brock, P.A.

From 1992 to 1994, he served as a City Commissioner for Ormond Beach. A City Commissioner helps make decisions for the city. After that, he became the Mayor of Ormond Beach. He served as Mayor from 1994 to 1999. Even though he was Mayor of Ormond Beach, he lived in Daytona Beach Shores.

Serving in the Florida House of Representatives

In 2012, Florida changed its state representative districts. Dave Hood Jr. decided to run for a seat in the new 25th District. He was the only person from the Republican Party to run in his district, so he won the nomination easily.

In the main election, he ran against an independent candidate named Christina Spencer-Kephart. Dave Hood Jr. won the election with 61% of the votes. He served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2012 to 2014. This district included areas like Ormond Beach, Daytona Beach Shores, Port Orange, Ponce Inlet, and New Smyrna Beach.

Becoming a Judge in Florida

Instead of running for re-election in 2014, Dave Hood Jr. decided to run for a judge position. He wanted to be a judge on the Seventh Judicial Circuit of Florida. He was planning to run against Michael Orfinger for the judge seat.

However, a judge named David B. Beck decided to retire. Florida's Governor, Rick Scott, then chose Dave Hood Jr. to take Judge Beck's place. Because of this appointment, Dave Hood Jr. stopped his campaign against Michael Orfinger. He resigned from the legislature on September 30, 2014, to become a judge.

On August 30, 2016, he ran for re-election to the circuit court. He was defeated by A. "Kathleen" McNeilly.

Dave Hood Jr. passed away in 2019 from brain cancer.
