David Babunski (Macedonian: Давид Бабунски) was born on March 1, 1994. He is a professional football player from North Macedonia. He plays as an attacking midfielder, which means he helps both attack and defend in the middle of the field. Currently, he plays for Dundee United in Scotland.
David grew up playing football in FC Barcelona's famous youth academy, La Masia. After playing for Barcelona's reserve team, he moved to Red Star Belgrade in January 2016. He even helped them win the Serbian SuperLiga in his first season there! Later, he played for teams in Japan, Romania, and Hungary.
David has also played for the national team of North Macedonia. He made his first appearance for his country in 2013.

David Babunski's Football Journey
Starting at Barcelona
David Babunski was born in Skopje, the capital city of North Macedonia. When he was 12 years old, in 2006, he joined FC Barcelona's youth academy, La Masia. This was after he showed great talent at a club called UDA Gramenet. In 2011, he was even named the Macedonian Young Sportsperson of the Year!
In June 2013, David moved up to play for Barcelona's reserve team. This was his first step into professional football. He played his first game on August 24, coming on as a substitute in a match against CD Lugo. He scored his first goal for the team on May 31, 2014, which was a winning goal in the last minute against AD Alcorcón.
He played 16 games in the 2014–15 season. That year, his team was moved down to a lower league. After being with Barcelona for ten years, David left the club in January 2016.
Playing for Red Star Belgrade
On January 28, 2016, David signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Red Star Belgrade, a big club in Serbia. He played his first game in the Serbian SuperLiga on February 20. He came on as a substitute and helped his team win 2–1. He played five more games that season, and Red Star Belgrade won their 27th league title!
Adventures in Japan
David moved to Japan on January 30, 2017, to play for Yokohama F. Marinos. He made an amazing debut in the J1 League on February 25. He scored the first goal in a 3–2 win against Urawa Red Diamonds in the first game of the season.
In August 2018, David signed with another Japanese club, Omiya Ardija.
Time in Romania and Hungary
On March 2, 2020, David signed a contract with FC Botoșani, a club in Romania. He played there for a while before leaving the club at the end of 2020.
Then, on January 11, 2021, David joined another Romanian team, FC Viitorul Constanța.
Later that year, on July 8, 2021, David moved to Hungary. He signed a two-year deal with Debreceni VSC. In the summer of 2022, he left Debreceni VSC. On September 20, 2022, David signed with Mezőkövesd, another Hungarian club. He signed a new contract with them in January 2023.
Joining Dundee United
Most recently, on July 16, 2024, David Babunski joined Dundee United. This team plays in the Scottish Premiership, which is the top football league in Scotland. He signed a one-year deal with a chance to stay for another season.
Playing for His Country
David Babunski has played for North Macedonia at many different age levels. He scored his first goal for the under-21 team on May 25, 2012. This was in a friendly game against Albania, which ended in a 2–2 draw.
In August 2013, he was called up to play for the main national team. He made his first appearance for his country on August 14. He played the last 31 minutes of a game against Bulgaria, which North Macedonia won 2–0 in Skopje.
About David's Family
David Babunski comes from a family of footballers. His father, Boban Babunski, was also a professional football player. He played in many countries, including Spain. David's younger brother, Dorian Babunski, is also a football player who plays as a forward. David and Dorian even played together for the Debrecen team in Hungary!
David is also proud of his family's history. His great-great-grandfather, Jovan Babunski, was a historical leader in his region.
David cares a lot about helping people. He is a strong supporter of human rights for people who have had to leave their homes. In 2015, during Christmas, he and his brother and four friends spent time at a camp in Gevgelija. This town in North Macedonia is near the border with Greece, and many people seeking safety passed through there. David wanted to help and show support for those in need.
