Website David Crockett High School

David Crockett High School is a high school located in Jonesborough, Tennessee. It's one of two high schools in the Washington County School System. This school serves the southern part of the county. The other high school is Daniel Boone High School, which serves the northern part.

About 1,181 students attended David Crockett High School in the 2022-2023 school year. The school is named after David (Davy) Crockett. He was a famous American folk hero, frontiersman, and politician from the 1800s. This name is a fun contrast to Daniel Boone High School (Tennessee), which is named after Daniel Boone. This creates a cool rivalry, especially in football! The school colors are brown and old gold, and their mascot is a Pioneer.

Learning at David Crockett High

David Crockett High School offers many types of classes. These include Career and Technical Education (CTE), Advanced Placement (AP), and Dual enrollment classes.

Career and Technical Education

CTE classes help students learn skills for specific jobs. Some of the CTE classes you can take are Agriculture, Teaching, Welding, Electrical, Machine Shop, Business, Digital Design, Nursing, and Culinary. These classes can sometimes help you earn a Professional certification. This means you get a special document showing you have certain job skills. The school even has greenhouses for agriculture classes!

Advanced Placement Classes

AP classes are college-level courses taught in high school. If you do well on an AP exam, you might earn college credit. This can save you time and money later! At David Crockett, some AP classes include Human Geography, Government, US History, Language and Composition, Literature, Statistics, Pre-Calculus (Trigonometry), and Calculus. Many students take these challenging classes.

Dual Enrollment Program

Dual Enrollment lets high school students take college classes. You can earn both high school and college credit at the same time! Students at David Crockett can take classes through East Tennessee State University and Northeast State Community College. These classes can be online, at the high school, or even on the college campus. The school might focus more on AP classes in the future, possibly changing the Dual Enrollment program by the 2025-2026 school year.

Sports and Rivalries

Sports are a big part of school life at David Crockett High. The football team has a special rivalry with Daniel Boone High School.

The Musket Bowl

Each year, David Crockett plays Daniel Boone in a football game called the "Musket Bowl." This game started in 1971 when both schools first opened. David Crockett won the very first game with a score of 72–0! Since then, Daniel Boone has won more games. As of 2019, Daniel Boone leads the series 37–12.

The Musket Bowl used to be played at the Mini-Dome at East Tennessee State University (ETSU). Now, the game rotates between David Crockett and Daniel Boone's home fields each year. The winning team gets a "musket" trophy. If a team wins three years in a row, they get to keep the musket, and a new one is bought for the next season. Daniel Boone High has kept the musket more often than Crockett. It's known as the "Battle of Washington County" between the Pioneers and the Trailblazers!

Kings of The Nolichucky Series

David Crockett's football team also plays in a series called "The Kings of The Nolichucky." This series is against nearby Chuckey Doak and Unicoi County High Schools. These schools are also near the Nolichucky River. As of 2014–15, David Crockett is undefeated in this series and holds the title "Kings of the Nolichucky."

2022 Musket Bowl Incident

On October 21, 2022, something unexpected happened before a Musket Bowl game. A skydiving team was hired to do a demonstration jump. Sadly, one of the skydivers, Richard Sheffield, had a difficult landing outside the football field. He was taken to the hospital but later passed away. The football game was delayed because of this accident. The police said it was a very sad accident.
