Karl David Sebastian Dencik (born 31 October 1974) is a Swedish-Danish actor. He has starred in many Swedish and Danish films. He became well-known in Sweden for his role in the TV mini-series Lasermannen. David Dencik has also played important parts in English-language films and TV shows. These include Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011), The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011), Top of the Lake (2017), McMafia (2018), Chernobyl (2019), and the James Bond movie No Time to Die (2021).
David Dencik has won the Robert Award twice. He won for Best Actor in a Leading Role for A Soap (2006). He also won for Best Actor in a Supporting Television Role for The Chestnut Man (2021). He received a Guldbagge Award for Best Supporting Actor for The Perfect Patient (2019). He has also been nominated seven times for the Bodil Award.

David Dencik: Early Life and Education
David Dencik was born on 31 October 1974 in Stockholm, Sweden. His parents were Lars Dencik, a social psychologist, and Kerstin Allrot, a film historian and producer. His last name, Dencik, comes from his grandfather. His grandfather left Czechoslovakia in 1939 to find safety in Sweden.
In 1976, David's family moved to Denmark, where he grew up. As a teenager, he studied in Brazil. There, he discovered capoeira, a Brazilian martial art. Capoeira combines dance and music. The dance part of capoeira made him interested in theatre.
In 1999, Dencik moved back to Stockholm. He studied at the Swedish National Academy of Mime and Acting. He finished his studies there in 2003.
David Dencik: Acting Career Highlights
David Dencik first performed on stage. He had a role in A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm.
His first movie role was a bartender in the 2003 film Reconstruction. After several smaller roles, he became a well-known actor in Sweden. This happened when he played the main character in the mini-series Lasermannen in 2005. Critics and viewers praised this series. They called it one of the best true crime and political drama productions in Swedish film history. David Dencik's acting was especially called "uniquely brilliant."
In 2006, he played the character Veronica in Pernille Fischer Christensen's film A Soap. For this role, he won the Robert Award for Best Actor. Also in 2006, he starred in the comedy Everything About My Bush. In 2007, he appeared in the Danish film Daisy Diamond.
He played Fred Åkerström in the 2010 movie Cornelis. In 2011, he was in the Hollywood movie The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. He also played Toby Esterhase in the film Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
He also starred in Brotherhood and the thriller Regression. In 2017, he played Alexander "Puss" Braun in Top of the Lake. In McMafia (2018), Dencik played the character Boris Godman.
In 2019, David Dencik played Mikhail Gorbachev in the HBO miniseries Chernobyl.
He then played a scientist named Valdo Obruchev in the James Bond film No Time to Die (2021).
In August 2024, it was announced that Dencik joined the TV series The Assassin. In March 2025, Dencik appeared in a music video for the Swedish rock band, Ghost (Swedish band). He played a character called the Mad Monk in their song "...".

David Dencik is married to Sofie Dencik, who is a lawyer from Denmark. They live in Copenhagen and have two children together.
