David Hernández de la Fuente (born in Madrid in 1974) is a Spanish writer, translator, and university professor. He is an expert in Classics, which means he studies the ancient Greek and Roman worlds.

About David Hernández de la Fuente

David Hernández de la Fuente was born in Madrid in 1974. He studied at the Complutense University of Madrid. He earned degrees in Classics, Spanish Philology (the study of language in historical texts), and Law. He also has two PhDs in Classics and Sociology (the study of human society).

After finishing his studies, he taught Classical Studies at the Charles III University of Madrid. He also worked as a Fellow at the Humboldt Foundation in Germany. Later, he became a Professor at the National University of Distance Education (UNED) in Spain. He has visited many universities around the world, including Columbia University in the USA and the University of Florence in Italy.

Currently, he is a Professor of Greek Philology at the Complutense University of Madrid. This means he teaches about the Greek language and literature from ancient times.

His Fiction Books

David Hernández de la Fuente began writing fiction in 2004. His first book, Las puertas del sueño, won the Young Artists Prize of the Community of Madrid. Since then, he has published many novels and short stories. His experimental novel Continental (2007) was praised by critics.

He also won the important Valencia Prize for Narrative for his novel A cubierto (2011). Other books he has written include the travel diary s/t and the novels La caverna de las cigarras, El retorno de los Heraclidas, and El origen del vellocino de oro.

His Non-Fiction Books

Besides fiction, David Hernández de la Fuente has written many non-fiction books about Classics and the Ancient World. Some of his well-known books are Oráculos griegos (about Greek oracles), De Galatea a Barbie, and Vidas de Pitágoras (about the ancient Greek mathematician Pythagoras).

His book on Pythagoras was even named "Book of the Year" by a cultural newspaper. His latest essay, El despertar del alma (2017), which is about the Greek gods Dionysos and Ariadne, has also received great reviews.

He has also helped edit many books with other experts. He has translated and written comments on works by famous classical authors like Nonnus of Panopolis, Plutarch, Plato, and Pindar.
