David Wayne Jackson Jr. (born August 12, 1982) is an American professional basketball player. He plays for Franca in Brazil's top league, Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB). David is a versatile player, often playing as a shooting guard or point guard. He is 6 feet 3 inches (1.92 meters) tall.
David played high school basketball in Maryland and North Carolina. He then went to Gulf Coast Community College in Florida. After two years, he transferred to Penn State for his final college years. After college, he started his professional career in Uruguay. David has won many awards in South America. These include two MVP (Most Valuable Player) awards, multiple All-Star selections, and a scoring title. In 2023, he helped Franca win the FIBA Intercontinental Cup and was named the tournament's MVP.

Early Life and High School Basketball
David Jackson was born in Rockville, Maryland. He grew up in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He went to High Point High School in Beltsville, Maryland. There, he played as a point guard on the basketball team.
After his senior year in 2001, David faced a challenge. He injured his foot and did not get high enough scores on the ACT test. This meant he couldn't play college basketball right away. He had to turn down an offer from Gettysburg College. After high school, he worked at a center for older people. He then decided to attend Bonner Academy, a special prep school in North Carolina. He worked hard to improve his grades and take the SAT test. His goal was to qualify for NCAA Division I basketball.
College Basketball Journey
David visited several community colleges in Florida. He chose to attend Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City, Florida. During his two years there, he was chosen twice for the All-Panhandle Conference team. In his second year, he was a top player. He averaged 18.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. He also led the state of Florida in 3-point shooting, making 55% of his shots.
David's great performance at Gulf Coast caught the eye of many top colleges. He received offers from schools like Auburn, Penn State, West Virginia, and South Carolina. In April 2005, he chose to play for Penn State. He decided to study business management. In his first year at Penn State, he started all 30 games. He averaged 6.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game. In his second year, he improved his shooting. He made 41.7% of his shots from the field and 37.1% from three-point range. He also made 83.6% of his free throws.
Professional Basketball Career
After college, David Jackson was eligible for the NBA draft. However, he was not chosen by any NBA team. This did not stop him from pursuing his dream. He began his professional career in Uruguay.
Starting in South America
David joined Defensor Sporting in Uruguay in 2007. He played in the LUB league, scoring about 21 points per game. He even scored a career-high 38 points in one game. He also played in the 2007–08 FIBA Americas League. In 2008, he moved to Puerto Rico and played for Grises de Humacao.
Later in 2008, David joined Peñarol Mar del Plata in Argentina. He played 58 games and was named the League MVP. He was the first player from another country to win this award! In 2009, he moved to La Unión. In his first season there, he led the league in scoring with 18.9 points per game. He won the Top Scorer title.
Playing in Brazil
In 2011, David moved to Brazil to play for Flamengo. He helped them win the Carioca State Championship. He then played briefly in Venezuela before returning to Flamengo for the 2011–12 NBB season. He had a fantastic season, scoring 16.2 points per game. He also shot very well from the field, three-point line, and free-throw line.
In 2012, David went back to Argentina to play for Gimnasia Indalo. He was the first foreign player to sign with that team. In 2013, he played in Puerto Rico before returning to Brazil. He signed with Winner/Kabum Limeira. In the 2013–14 NBB season, he had an amazing year. He averaged 20.6 points per game and was named the MVP of the league. He also won the Best Foreign Player award.
Time with Quimsa and Vasco da Gama
In 2015, David joined Quimsa, a team in Argentina. He played in the LNB league and the 2016 FIBA Americas League. After that, he moved back to Brazil to play for Vasco da Gama. He helped Vasco da Gama get promoted to the top Brazilian league, the NBB.
David played for Vasco da Gama in the 2016–17 NBB season and the 2017–18 NBB season. He continued to be a strong scorer for the team, averaging over 15 points per game in both seasons.
Success with Franca
In July 2018, David Jackson signed with Franca. He quickly helped the team win the Paulista State Championship in 2018. He also played a key role in the 2018–19 NBB season. David led Franca to win the 2018 Liga Sudamericana de Básquetbol. He was named the Most Valuable Player of that competition.
Playing for Minas and Return to Franca
On December 1, 2020, David signed with Minas. He played there for one season.
On June 7, 2021, Franca announced that David Jackson was returning to their team. Since his return, David has achieved even more success. On April 16, 2023, he helped Franca win the continental Basketball Champions League Americas championship. He also won the NBB championship with Franca in 2022 and 2023. In September 2023, he led Franca to win the FIBA Intercontinental Cup. For his outstanding performance, he was named the tournament's MVP. David continues to be a star player for Franca.
