Early Life and Family
David Lindsay grew up in Scotland. He married Lady Sophia Seton on February 16, 1612, in Dunfermline, Fife. Sophia was the daughter of Alexander Seton, 1st Earl of Dunfermline, who was a very important person at the time.
David and Sophia had two children:
- A son named Alexander, who later became the first Earl of Balcarres. An Earl is a very high noble title.
- A daughter named Sophia, who passed away at a young age after marrying Robert Moray.
Becoming a Lord
In 1612, David Lindsay was made a knight. Being a knight was a special honor given by the king. Later, on June 27, 1633, he was given the title of Lord Lindsay of Balcarres. This meant he became a "Lord," which is a noble title, and he gained a seat in the Scottish Parliament.
David Lindsay was known for being a "staunch royalist." This means he was very loyal to the king and supported the king's power and decisions strongly.

David Lindsay passed away in March 1642. He was buried in the Chapel at Balcarres, which is in Fife, Scotland.
