David W. Panuelo (born April 13, 1964) is a politician from Micronesia. He served as the president of the Federated States of Micronesia from 2019 to 2023.

About David Panuelo

David Panuelo was born on April 13, 1964. His birthplace was the island of Pohnpei. He completed much of his early schooling there. Later, he went to college in the United States. In 1987, he earned a degree in political science from Eastern Oregon University.
Early Career in Government
In 1988, Panuelo began his career in government. He was appointed as the deputy ambassador for Micronesia's embassy in Fiji. He worked there until 1993. After that, he served at the Micronesian Mission to the United Nations until 1996. In 1997, he became the director of the Department of Resource Management and Development for the State of Pohnpei. He held this important role until 2001.
From Business to Politics
From 2003 to 2010, Panuelo worked in private business. He then returned to public service. On May 11, 2011, he was elected as a Senator for Pohnpei State. He was re-elected without opposition in 2013 and 2015.
Becoming President
In 2019, David Panuelo was elected as the president of Micronesia. During his inauguration speech, he spoke about "Taking Actions Today for Our Nation's Prosperity Tomorrow." He also promised that his government would be open and responsible.
David Panuelo is married to Janet S. Panuelo. They have five children and seven grandchildren.

During his time as president, David Panuelo focused on Micronesia's relationships with other countries. The United States helps Micronesia with its defense and security. It also provides a lot of financial support.

President Panuelo often spoke about Micronesia's ties with different nations. He emphasized the importance of peace and cooperation. COVID-19 Pandemic Response
During the COVID-19 pandemic, President Panuelo's government kept Micronesia's borders closed for about two and a half years. This was done to protect the nation from the virus. Many Micronesians who were abroad faced difficulties returning home. Those who did return followed strict health rules.
