David Rotem (born January 11, 1949 – died June 8, 2015) was an important Israeli politician. He was a member of the Knesset, which is like Israel's parliament or main law-making body. He represented the Yisrael Beiteinu political party from 2007 to 2015.
About David Rotem
David Rotem was born in Bnei Brak, a city in Israel. He grew up in Jerusalem. He went to religious schools, including Horev elementary school and Horev Yeshiva High School. For a short time, from 1966 to 1967, he studied at a Jewish school in London, England.
After that, he studied law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem from 1967 to 1971. He earned a law degree. Later, he worked as an assistant and then a lecturer at the Faculty of Law at Bar-Ilan University. He also helped lead important groups like the Sha'arei Tzedek Medical Center and the Central Elections Committee.
David Rotem could speak Yiddish and English. His friends often called him Dudu. He also helped out on the boards of several non-profit organizations.
His Time in Politics
David Rotem was first a member of the National Religious Party. Later, he joined the Yisrael Beiteinu party. He was chosen to be a member of the Knesset in 2007. The Knesset is where laws are made in Israel. He took the place of another politician who had passed away.
He kept his seat in the Knesset after the elections in 2009 and 2013. This meant he served three terms in total. On January 6, 2015, David Rotem announced that he would not run for re-election. He decided to leave politics. He passed away at his home on June 8, 2015, from a heart attack.
