David Verburg (born May 14, 1991) is an American track and field athlete. He is known for running the 400 meters race. David has won many gold medals in the 4x400 meter relay. These include gold medals from the 2016 Olympics, the 2013 and 2015 World Championships, and the 2014 Indoor World Championships.

David Verburg was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on May 14, 1991. He went to E. C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, Virginia. He graduated in 2009. Later, he studied Sports Management at George Mason University and finished his degree in 2013.

David's Track and Field Journey

Starting Strong in High School and College

David Verburg showed his talent early. He still holds the 400-meter dash record at his high school, E.C. Glass, with a time of 47.15 seconds. He ran track in college for the George Mason Patriots. There, he was named an All-American many times. This means he was one of the best college athletes in the country.

Winning Gold on the World Stage

David's international career began in 2010. He won a gold medal in the 4x400 meter relay at the 2010 World Junior Championships in Athletics in Moncton, Canada.

In 2012, David won two gold medals at the 2012 NACAC Under-23 Championships in Athletics in Irapuato, Mexico. He won for the 400-meter dash and the 4x400 meter relay.

In 2013, David was chosen for the U.S. team for the 2013 World Championships in Athletics in Moscow, Russia. He ran in the 4x400 meter relay. His team won a gold medal and set a very fast time of 2:58.71.

David continued his success at the 2015 World Championships. He ran in the finals of the 4x400 meter relay. His team won another gold medal. They also set a new world-leading time of 2:57.82.

At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, David Verburg helped his team win a gold medal in the 4x400 meter relay. This was a huge achievement for him and his country.

David's Love for Animals

In 2018, David Verburg became famous for something special. He ran into busy traffic in Clermont, Florida, to save a turtle. The turtle had wandered into the road. A video of his rescue went viral online. David was even invited to be a guest on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

In 2019, David started the Golden Tortoise Rescue Foundation in Florida. This foundation helps turtles in need. Because of his strong beliefs in animal rights, David also follows a vegan diet. This means he does not eat any animal products.
