David de Lindsay was an important Scottish knight and crusader who lived in the 1200s. He was known as the Lord of Barnweill and Byres. David de Lindsay passed away around 1279.

David was the son of another man also named David de Lindsay. He owned lands in areas of Scotland called East Lothian and South Ayrshire. In 1241, he became a high-ranking official called the Justiciar of Lothian under King Alexander II of Scotland. This was a special judge-like role, and his father had held it before him.

David de Lindsay became even more important in Scotland. He supported a powerful family called the Comyns. This was during the time when King Alexander III of Scotland was still very young and couldn't rule by himself. In 1255, David became a regent, which meant he helped rule the country until the young king was old enough. He also served as the royal Lord Chamberlain of Scotland from 1255 to 1257. This was a key role in the king's household.

Later in his life, David de Lindsay joined the Ninth Crusade. This was a big journey to the Middle East with Prince Edward of England. David de Lindsay died in Egypt around the year 1279 during this journey.
