History of Davison
Davison Station: Early Days
The area that would become Davison was first settled in 1842. A big change happened in 1871 when a railroad line was built through the settlement. This led to the area being called "Davison Station." This new railroad helped the town grow.
In 1871, the first saw mill was built here. A saw mill is a place where logs are cut into lumber. Soon after, in 1872, the town got its first doctor, a merchant (someone who sells goods), and a tavern. The Davison Station post office also opened that year.
Davison Village: Growing Up
Davison became an official village on May 20, 1889. This meant it had its own local government. In 1894, a fire destroyed part of the downtown area. But the village rebuilt and kept growing.
By 1895, Davison had a place called Rosemoor Park. This park had a race track that was first used for horse races and later for cars. From 1919 to 1938, the park hosted the county fair almost every year. In 1916, the village had about 700 people and many important buildings like a bank and several churches.
Davison City: A New Chapter
Davison became a city on December 5, 1938. This meant it separated from the larger Davison Township and had more control over its own services. Rosemoor Park closed in 1943, and the land was later used to build houses.
