Dawnstar's Origin Story
Dawnstar is her real name, and she doesn't have a special code name in the Legion. She comes from a planet called Starhaven. This planet was settled by people from Earth who were taken there long ago. These people were American Indians from the 13th Century.
Dawnstar's people are from the Anasazi Indian heritage. The people of Starhaven have large, white, feathered wings. These wings grow from their backs. They got these wings because of special changes made to their genes.
Dawnstar's parents are named Mistrider and Moonwalker. She also has two younger brothers, Greybird and Greatfire. When Dawnstar was younger, her parents ran a successful business. They used Dawnstar's special ability to guide spaceships safely through dangerous parts of space. She also helped hunters find animals.
Joining the Legion of Super-Heroes
When Dawnstar was 16, she got an invitation to join the the Legion Academy. This invitation came from R.J. Brande, who helped fund the Legion. She wasn't sure at first, but she accepted.
Dawnstar quickly graduated from the Academy. She became a full member of the Legion on her very first mission. Her amazing skills at tracking and navigating helped her earn her spot. She used the money she earned from the Legion to help improve her home planet's defenses.
Adventures and Relationships
Dawnstar went on many missions with the Legionnaires. Her talents were very important, even if they were sometimes overlooked. She often rescued her teammates. She also helped solve mysteries, like when people went missing.
Dawnstar also traveled through time with the Legion. She helped them on adventures in the 20th Century. One important event she was part of was the Crisis on Infinite Earths in 1985.
Dawnstar had a long relationship with another Legionnaire named Wildfire. They both respected each other's strong personalities. They often helped each other learn to work as a team. Wildfire was a being made of anti-energy, so he didn't have a physical body.
Later, in a different timeline, Dawnstar was controlled by an evil being called Bounty. Bounty cut off her wings and made her use her tracking powers to hurt people. Luckily, Dawnstar was eventually freed from Bounty's control. She healed, but her story was cut short when the Legion's timeline was erased. This happened during events like Zero Hour in 1994.
Dawnstar's Return
Dawnstar has appeared in comics again since then. In Legion of Super-Heroes (vol. 5) #15 (February 2006), she was shown on a cover with other classic Legion members. She appeared briefly in a story that showed how the Legion became legends.
She also appeared as a statue in Superman's Fortress of Solitude. Later, Dawnstar and other Legionnaires came to the 21st century. They worked together to save someone's life. They used special rods, like those used to save Lightning Lad in older Legion stories.
This group of Legionnaires, including Dawnstar, also appeared in the "Superman and the Legion of Super-Heroes" story. This story was in Action Comics #858–863 (2007–2008). In this series, Dawnstar's uniform was given a new look.
Dawnstar was also in the comic series Final Crisis: Legion of 3 Worlds (2008). In this story, she finally told Wildfire how she truly felt about him. They started a positive relationship after he almost died protecting her.
After a big comic book event called New 52, Dawnstar was one of several characters stuck in the 21st century. This happened in the Legion Lost series from 2012–2013. Even after that series ended, she remained stuck in the past. She was later shown to have joined the Justice League.
Amazing Powers and Abilities
Dawnstar has some very special powers. She can track living things and objects across huge distances. She can even track them through space, over light years!
She can also survive in deep space for a long time. She doesn't need a spacesuit or air to breathe. This is because she can create a special forcefield around herself. When she is in deep space, she can travel faster than the speed of light. However, when she is on a planet like Earth, her speed is limited by air and gravity.
Special Equipment
As a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes, Dawnstar has a Legion Flight Ring. She doesn't always need it for flying because of her wings. But she can use the ring to call for help. It also helps the Legion keep track of where she is. The ring has other uses too, besides flying.
