Dawson is a city in Dallas County, Iowa, United States. The population was 116 at the time of the 2020 census. It is part of the Des Moines–West Des Moines Metropolitan Statistical Area.

2020 census
As of the census of 2020, there were 116 people, 42 households, and 28 families residing in the city. The population density was 234.4 inhabitants per square mile (90.5/km2). There were 54 housing units at an average density of 109.1 per square mile (42.1/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 88.8% White, 0.0% Black or African American, 1.7% Native American, 0.9% Asian, 0.0% Pacific Islander, 2.6% from other races and 6.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino persons of any race comprised 6.0% of the population.
Of the 42 households, 40.5% of which had children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.2% were married couples living together, 16.7% were cohabitating couples, 9.5% had a female householder with no spouse or partner present and 28.6% had a male householder with no spouse or partner present. 33.3% of all households were non-families. 14.3% of all households were made up of individuals, 7.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years old or older.
The median age in the city was 34.5 years. 27.6% of the residents were under the age of 20; 4.3% were between the ages of 20 and 24; 30.2% were from 25 and 44; 25.0% were from 45 and 64; and 12.9% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 55.2% male and 44.8% female.

As of the census of 2010, there were 131 people, 52 households, and 33 families living in the city. The population density was 272.9 inhabitants per square mile (105.4/km2). There were 63 housing units at an average density of 131.3 per square mile (50.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 93.1% White, 0.8% African American, 1.5% from other races, and 4.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.6% of the population.
There were 52 households, of which 38.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.9% were married couples living together, 5.8% had a female householder with no husband present, 5.8% had a male householder with no wife present, and 36.5% were non-families. 32.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 9.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 3.27.
The median age in the city was 37.3 years. 31.3% of residents were under the age of 18; 9.2% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 21.3% were from 25 to 44; 23.7% were from 45 to 64; and 14.5% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 54.2% male and 45.8% female.
