Day 1, also known as Amazon Tower II, is a very tall office building in Seattle, Washington. It stands 521-foot-tall (159 m) and is part of a three-tower complex that serves as the main home for Amazon employees. You can find it in the Denny Triangle area, right where Lenora Street and 7th Avenue meet.

The name "Day 1" used to belong to other Amazon buildings, but now it's used for this one. On the side of the building that faces east, there's a huge sign that says "Hello World". This building project was one of the most expensive ones finished in Seattle in 2016.

Inside Day 1, you'll also find the very first Amazon Go store. This special store opened to a few people in December 2016 and then to everyone on January 22, 2018.

Building Day 1: Amazon's Headquarters

The entire Amazon campus, including Day 1, was designed by a Seattle architecture firm called NBBJ and a landscape design company named Site Workshop. The city of Seattle gave its approval for the plans in late 2012.

Work on the 37-story Day 1 tower began in 2014. The company in charge of building it was Sellen Construction. The building officially opened its doors on November 7, 2016. The whole campus project is also aiming to get a special "LEED Gold" certification. This means it was built in a way that is good for the environment and uses resources wisely.

The Amazing Amazon Spheres

Right next to the Day 1 tower, you'll see three amazing glass-and-steel domes. These are called the Amazon Spheres. They are between 80-to-90-foot-tall (24 to 27 m) and connect to each other.

The Spheres have five floors inside and offer extra workspace for about 1,800 employees. They also have some shops. The architects at NBBJ wanted these spheres to be the "new visual focus" and the "heart" of Amazon's headquarters. The idea for these unique domes was shown by Amazon in 2013. They replaced an earlier plan for a regular office building in the same spot.

The designers thought that bringing more sunlight and plants into the workspace would help people be more productive. When the plans for the Spheres were first shown in 2013, most people liked them. They even got attention from news around the world! The Amazon Spheres officially opened on January 31, 2018.
