Early Life and School Days
Daye Jack was born in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, on February 1, 1996. Port Harcourt is a big city in Rivers State, Nigeria. He spent his childhood years in Atlanta, Georgia. His father was from Nigeria but lived in California for a while. Later, his father went back to Nigeria to marry Daye's mother. Then, they moved back to Atlanta.
When Daye was in high school, he became very interested in computer programming. After high school, he went to New York University. It was during his time at NYU that he started his journey in music.
Daye Jack's Music Career
Daye Jack released his first music collection, called a mixtape, when he was 18. It was named Hello World. He put it on a website called SoundCloud. Soon, many music blogs noticed his talent. They asked him to share more of his music.
A music producer named Mike Elizondo contacted Daye. Daye flew to Los Angeles to record some demo songs. This led to him signing a contract with Warner Bros. Records. In 2015, he released an EP (which is like a mini-album) called Soul Glitch. This was released under the Warner Bros. label.
Working with Other Artists
After Soul Glitch came out, Daye Jack worked with Killer Mike in 2015. They released the song Hands Up. The music video for "Hands Up" was first shown on Billboard. Billboard described it as "emotionally charged" and having a "powerful message of solidarity." The video was released on the first day of Black History Month in 2016. The song became very popular, reaching number 14 on the Billboard Twitter Emerging Artists chart.
Daye Jack has also worked with many other musicians. In 2015, he was featured on the song "Expensive." This song was on Tori Kelly's album Unbreakable Smile. Daye also sang background vocals for Ariana Grande's album Dangerous Woman in 2016. In early 2016, Daye toured across the country with another artist named Pell. He also toured with Lukas Graham.
Daye Jack released his first full-length album, No Data, in March 2017.
