Dayton is a small town located in Sheffield Township, Tippecanoe County, in the state of Indiana, United States. In 2010, about 1,420 people lived there. Dayton is also part of the larger Lafayette area.

History of Dayton
Dayton was first called Fairfield until the year 1830. A post office, where people send and receive mail, has been open in Dayton since 1831.
The Dayton Historic District is a special area in town. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. This means it has important buildings and places that are worth protecting because of their history.
Geography of Dayton
Dayton is located in the northwest part of Sheffield Township. The town is about 676 feet (206 meters) above sea level.
According to the 2010 census, Dayton covers a total area of about 1.06 square miles (2.75 square kilometers). All of this area is land.

- Shannon Hoon, who was the lead singer of the band Blind Melon, was born and grew up near Dayton. He is buried in the Dayton Cemetery, which is on the east side of town.
