DeMarco Morgan is an American journalist who works on TV. He is currently an anchor at ABC News. He helps host a show called GMA3: What You Need to Know with Eva Pilgrim.

DeMarco's Early Life and Education

DeMarco Morgan finished high school in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1997. While there, he got a chance to work at a TV station called KOTV. In 2001, he earned a college degree from Jackson State University in Mississippi. The next year, in 2002, he got his master's degree from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

While studying at Columbia, he helped start a student group for the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ). He also gained experience by working at CBS Evening News and 48 Hours. He was recognized as a special scholar during this time.

Giving Back to the Community

DeMarco Morgan cares a lot about helping others. He has volunteered with groups like Big Brothers Big Sisters, which helps kids. He has also worked with the American Cancer Society and the NAACP. He is an active member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, which also focuses on community service.

DeMarco's Career in Journalism

DeMarco Morgan started his TV career while studying at Columbia University. He helped cover the September 11 attacks, which was a very important event. He also taught journalism at Jackson State University for two years. Later, he taught English at Milwaukee Area Technical College.

After finishing his studies, DeMarco got his first reporting job at WJTV in Jackson, Mississippi. In 2004, he moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to work at WISN, an ABC station. There, he co-anchored the news for three years.

In 2007, he joined WTVJ in Miami, an NBC station, as an anchor and reporter. By December 2008, he was working at WNBC in New York. He was a weekend anchor there and also did news updates for MSNBC.

In 2012, DeMarco joined WXIA in Atlanta, another NBC station. He co-anchored the 6 P.M. news and reported for the 11 P.M. broadcast. While in Atlanta, he also taught journalism classes at Morehouse College and Clark Atlanta University. In 2015, he moved to CBS News as a correspondent.

On April 17, 2019, it was announced that DeMarco would move to KCBS in Los Angeles. He became the weekday morning anchor there, starting on May 6, 2019. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he also anchored some news shows for WCBS in New York and the CBS Weekend News from Los Angeles. This happened because some CBS employees were sick, so they couldn't use the main CBS studio.

In late 2022, DeMarco Morgan became a correspondent and anchor for ABC News. He quickly became part of the anchor team for GMA3: What You Need to Know. This was due to changes with the show's previous anchors. In May 2023, DeMarco Morgan and Eva Pilgrim were officially named the permanent anchors for the show, along with Dr. Jennifer Ashton.

Awards and Recognitions

DeMarco Morgan has received several awards for his work. In 2001, while still in college, he was one of the top 10 college journalists in the country.

During his time in Milwaukee, he was honored twice as the Grand Marshal for the United Negro College Fund. He also received many awards from the Associated Press for his broadcasting.

In 2006, Ebony Magazine recognized DeMarco as "One of America's Young Leaders of the Future." They noted his commitment to giving back to his community. In the same year, he received the NABJ National Community Service Award.

In 2009, DeMarco received the "Thurgood Marshall Prestige Award" for his community service in New York.
