DeStorm Power grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, as one of eight children. He started dancing and rapping at a young age. When his son Tayvion was born, DeStorm felt inspired to chase his dream of a music career. In 2001, he moved to California to make music.
He worked as an intern and helped write songs for big record labels like Atlantic Records and Universal Records. But DeStorm really wanted to be a performer himself. So, he decided to use YouTube to show off his singing, songwriting, and music-making skills.
DeStorm's videos are often funny and include rapping and beatboxing. He was also a talented triple jumper and was even invited to the Olympic Trials. In 2008, he lost his mother, Mashala. He later joined different talent agencies for his acting career before deciding to work independently. In 2015, DeStorm co-hosted the TV show Punk'd on BET. He also helped create and is the president of The Zeus Network, which started in 2018. DeStorm has won several awards, including being honored at the American Music Awards in 2011.
