DeWayne McBride (born July 8, 2001) is an American football player. He plays as a running back for the Memphis Showboats in the United Football League (UFL). Before joining the pros, he was a star player in college for the UAB Blazers. In 2022, he was named the top offensive player in his college conference, Conference USA. That year, he ran for over 1,700 yards and scored 19 touchdowns.

Early Life and High School Football

DeWayne McBride grew up in Starke, Florida. He went to Vanguard High School in Ocala, Florida. During his senior year of high school, DeWayne showed off his skills. He ran for 936 yards and scored 12 touchdowns. He was seen as a promising young player. After high school, he decided to play college football at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

College Football Career

DeWayne McBride played college football for the UAB Blazers from 2020 to 2022. He quickly became one of the best running backs in the country.

Freshman Year (2020)

As a freshman in 2020, DeWayne played in six games. He ran for 439 yards on 47 carries. He also scored four touchdowns. In one game against Louisiana Tech, he had an amazing 75-yard touchdown run. This run broke the record for the longest touchdown run in UAB school history!

Sophomore Year (2021)

Before the 2021 season, DeWayne was already getting noticed. He was named to the Conference USA preseason all-conference team. He was also on the watch list for the Doak Walker Award. This award goes to the best running back in college football. In 2021, DeWayne ran for 1,371 yards and scored 13 touchdowns. He averaged 6.72 yards every time he carried the ball. He ran for over 100 yards in six different games. He even set a new personal best with 210 rushing yards and four touchdowns in a game against Louisiana Tech. After the season, he was named to the Second-team All-C-USA.

Junior Year (2022)

DeWayne continued to impress in 2022. He was again on the watch lists for both the Doak Walker Award and the Maxwell Award. The Maxwell Award is given to the best all-around player in college football. In 2022, DeWayne led the entire NCAA in total rushing yards with 1,713. He also led the nation in yards per game, averaging 155.7 yards. He broke another school record by running for 272 yards in one game. He also set a new school record with 19 rushing touchdowns in a single season. Because of his amazing performance, he was named the C-USA Offensive Player of the Year. After this incredible season, DeWayne decided to skip his final college game and enter the 2023 NFL draft. In his college career, he played 31 games. He ran for a total of 3,523 yards and scored 36 touchdowns.

Minnesota Vikings

DeWayne was chosen by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2023 NFL Draft. He was the 222nd player picked overall, in the seventh round. He was later waived (meaning he was released from the main team roster) on August 29, 2023. However, the Vikings signed him to their practice squad the very next day. A practice squad is a group of players who train with the team but are not on the active roster. After the 2023 season ended, he signed a new contract with the Vikings on January 8, 2024. He was again waived by the Vikings on August 26, 2024, and briefly re-signed to the practice squad before being released again.

Memphis Showboats

On January 6, 2025, DeWayne McBride signed with the Memphis Showboats. This team is part of the United Football League (UFL). He continues his professional football journey with the Showboats.
