De Land is a small village located in Piatt County, Illinois, United States. In 2020, about 447 people lived there. The village's name is spelled De Land by the census bureau.

History of De Land Village
De Land was started in 1873 by a person named Thomas E. Bondurant. He wanted to create a place where local farmers could easily send their grain to other places. Before it got its official name, people sometimes called it "Tom's Town" after him.
How De Land Got Its Name
There are a few ideas about how De Land got its name. Some say it was named after James DeLand. He helped bring the railroad to the area in 1872. Others believe it was named after French DeLand, a surveyor who helped plan the town. The village officially became a recognized town in 1899.
De Land's Carnegie Library
In 1912, a special library called a Carnegie Library opened in De Land. Andrew Carnegie, a very rich businessman, gave $8,000 to help build it. A group of local citizens, including Tom McMillen and Lucy Thornton, worked hard to get support for the library. The original library building was used until 2009. After that, all the books and materials were moved to a new building nearby.

In 2002, the leaders of De Land recognized something important. Many years ago, the village had passed an old rule that was unfair to certain groups of people. This rule is no longer active today.
