History of DeMotte
DeMotte became a town because of the New York Central Railroad. This railroad line was built through the area in the early 1880s. A post office opened in DeMotte in 1882. The town was named after Mark L. De Motte. He was a member of the United States Congress at that time.

DeMotte is located in Indiana. It covers an area of about 3.61 square miles (9.35 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
Two important roads pass through DeMotte. These are U.S. Route 231 and Indiana State Road 10. These roads help people travel to and from the town.

A well-known person named Charles A. Halleck was born near DeMotte in 1900. He became an important political leader. From 1935 to 1968, he was a Republican leader in the U.S. House of Representatives. This is where laws are made for the country.
