The Dead River is a short river in the U.S. state of Oregon. It flows into the much larger Willamette River. You can find this river east of the city of Corvallis. It starts in Linn County and flows through Benton County.
Where the Dead River Flows
The Dead River begins at the lower end of Colorado Lake. From there, it flows mostly east. It runs along the south side of a piece of land called Truax Island. This island actually separates the Dead River from the main part of the Willamette River.
After flowing past Truax Island, the Dead River turns north. It then crosses into Benton County. Finally, it joins the Willamette River at a place called Half Moon Bend, which is northeast of Orleans.
Water Sources
The Dead River gets its water from Colorado Lake. Colorado Lake itself is fed by a smaller stream called Owl Creek. So, Owl Creek is like a grandparent stream to the Dead River!
