Deborah Coleman (born October 3, 1956 – died April 12, 2018) was an amazing American blues musician. She was known for her powerful guitar playing and singing. In 2001, Deborah won a special award called the Orville Gibson Award for "Best Blues Guitarist, Female." She was also nominated nine times for the W.C. Handy Blues Music Award, which is a very important award in blues music.

Biography
Deborah Coleman was born in Portsmouth, Virginia. She grew up in a family that loved music. Her family moved around a lot because her father was in the military. They lived in places like San Diego, San Francisco, and near Chicago.
Early Life and Music
Music was a big part of Deborah's home. Her father played the piano. She had two brothers who played guitar. Her sister also played guitar and keyboards. Deborah started playing the guitar when she was only eight years old! She finished high school in 1974 in Chesapeake, Virginia. Before becoming a full-time musician, she worked in different jobs. One interesting job she had was being a master electrician.
Performing and Albums
Deborah Coleman played at many famous music festivals. These included the North Atlantic Blues Festival in 2007 and the Waterfront Blues Festival in 2002. She also performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival in 2001 and the San Francisco Blues Festival in 1999.
Her first album with the record label Blind Pig was called I Can't Lose. It came out in 1997. This album featured many blues songs and showed off her guitar skills and singing. She even covered a song by the famous singer Billie Holiday, which was played on many radio stations.
Later, she released other albums like Soul Be It in 2002. This album had popular songs such as "Brick" and "My Heart Bleeds Blue." She continued to release music, including What About Love? in 2004 and Stop the Game in 2007. In 2007, she also appeared on an album called Time Bomb. This special album featured three talented women blues musicians: Deborah Coleman, Sue Foley, and Roxanne Potvin.
Later Years
Sadly, Deborah Coleman passed away on April 12, 2018. She died in a hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. Her death was unexpected and caused by problems from bronchitis and pneumonia.
